Entering the middle of the month, the weather has been poor with a pattern that's set in combing a brisk north easterly wind with grey skies. A return to Blackdown only resulted in reduced numbers of sightings. Hardly anything was visible at all the entire length of the main heath other than a Common Buzzard, it was only as I decided to head down into the more sheltered Cotchet valley that I found 2 Woodlarks on the path, it has been a couple of months since I've seen a Woodlark and I had assumed they had all dispersed away from the heath. A small feeding party of birds held 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Firecrest, a Blackcap and a few Willow Warblers but it was a bit of a battle to see anything.
