Another foggy start, although it wasn't as dense as yesterday, so I walked from the house at 8am on a loop to the Furnace Pond again. There were definitely more birds around, with many more Thrushes and finches moving along with the groups of Woodpigeons. I'd had several Redwing fly across the garden before I left home, and notably there were 8 Blackbirds under the bird table first thing and 2 Fieldfare were the first I've seen away from Blackdown this autumn.
I'd counted over 70 Redwing by the time I'd walked through Park Farm and entered the woods by the stream. There was also a small flock of Lesser Redpoll in a Silver Birch, plenty of Siskin and Goldfinch, which were sticking to the Alders. Other than a couple of Meadow Pipit I saw very little until reaching the Furnace Pond. Over 15 Mandarin were at the back of the pond with 6 Teal, 2 Mallard, Moorhen, Grey Heron and Cormorant. The highlight of the walk were 3 Yellowhammer just the edge of one of the fields. A single Common Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk were added on the walk. back. 4 Roe Deer were the only mammals and a late Red Admiral made a brief appearance at home this afternoon.
Today's tally was 42 species, somehow avoiding a Dunnock all day. The Lockdown list is up to 52.
