Tuesday 17th November - Lockdown 2 - Day 13

A dreary, drizzly and dark day weather wise, although not particularly cold. The weather aside, activities were curtailed by an episode of 'Boiler Man'. I have 2 buildings and 2 boilers. In the house the boiler was working but the underfloor heating had stopped and in the barn the boiler wasn't working and was tripping the electrics. The conclusion was that after 4 hours of 'Boiler Man' in attendance, by 3pm and not an insignificant chunk of change later, everything was working !

The upshot being very little else was achieved. However, the significant highlight was a Kingfisher in the pond, successfully fishing for newts for about 15 minutes at 1pm. 3 Raven flying over, a Grey Heron and the Grey Wagtail were other highlights today.

Kingfisher, using the reedmace as a perch

Male Kingfisher with all black bill.

I've had 3 previous records here, 2 in December one October

They must be partial to the occasional newt

Start of a dive

.. and successful

.. and then away
