A foggy mist lingered all day, but it was mild with no breeze. For the first time since 30 September I tried the moth trap last night thinking I would get very little but surprisingly had 11 moths, 2 of which were new species, a Feathered Thorn and Mottled Umber.
It seemed pointless trying to gain any elevation or walk where there was a view today, so we walked East of the village to Lower House Farm, part of which were paths I hadn't taken before. No new species today but a couple of surprises. A few of the arable fields planted with Winter Wheat at least had the equivalent of a game strip on the field edge and the first field we walked past had at least 100 Linnets using the crop. Definitely the largest number I've seen around here. There was also a decent number of thrushes moving between the fields and hedges with over 70 Redwing a few Fieldfare a couple of Mistle Thrush and 2 Yellowhammer.
A Grey Wagtail was on the pond at home early this morning, but that was it for highlights. Although it feels like a moral victory in the US election with a feeling that the world has a chance of becoming less chaotic.
